Chicago Sky star Sylvia Fowles has requested a trade and wants out of Chicago.
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the 6-6 center asked to be traded to a specific team in January, and the Sky have been working on a deal for several months.
Fowles, a three-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, has been a cornerstone of Chicago’s franchise since the Sky selected her second overall in the 2008 WNBA Draft.
Sylvia Fowles has been one of the most recognizable names in the WNBA and a face that has been intertwined with the identity of the Sky, but “Big Syl” appears ready to move on.
The two-time Defensive Player of the Year and three-time All-Star has requested a trade, the team said Monday. Coach and general manager Pokey Chatman said Fowles has a specific team in mind but declined to identify the franchise as the team explores options.
“Syl expressed interest in only going to one team,” Chatman said, adding that the teams have exchanged proposals over the last two months. “She felt like wanted to try something new.”
Fowles declined to comment through her agent.
