Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird is entering her fifth Olympic Games with a tremendous honor, representing Team USA as one of the two flag bearers in the Olympics opening ceremony Friday night.
What better way to start your fifth Olympic Games than as @TeamUSA‘s Opening Ceremony Flag Bearer!

The four-time gold medalist and Team USA are competing for the nation’s seventh-straight gold medal, which would tie the Men’s streak from 1936-1968.
Bird is the second U.S. women’s basketball player to carry the flag in the opening ceremony, joining her Team USA head coach Dawn Staley who carried the flag at the 2004 Olympics.
“It’s an incredible honor to be selected the flag bearer for Team USA,” Bird said.
“I know what that means, because I got to witness Dawn Staley go through it when she was selected in 2004. It’s an honor that is bigger than the moment in that you’ve been selected by your fellow Team USA athletes to represent the entire delegation, and it will last forever.”
