Hello SLAM fans! My name is Sue Bird and I am a point guard for the Seattle Storm. I will be checking in with you guys twice a month to share my journey through this WNBA season!
This year is the 15th year anniversary for the Seattle Storm. I came to the franchise in 2002 and it was the third year for the team. Being apart of the Seattle franchise has been a very unique experience. We have had some highs and lows on and off the court, but it has been awesome to be a part of this team and watch the fan base grow organically. It was cool coming from the University of Connecticut—a place where it’s a well-oiled machine and every player will succeed as long as you continue to work hard—to being so hands on with building in Seattle. It has been an awesome experience.
Over the offseason we added All-Star forward Crystal Langhorne via a trade with the Washington Mystics. She has proven herself in the WNBA and we knew exactly what type of player we were getting. Across the board, I feel like we are a pretty new team and getting to know each other better each day. Every day I feel we are getting more comfortable with each other and the new players are getting sharper in [coach] Brian [Agler]’s system. It’s something to be said about a team that can make improvements in a short period of time and I feel like the moves we have made will push us forward this year in the long run.
On a lighter note, I have been spending my down time as of late redecorating my apartment. I have gotten into the whole interiordecorating thing. I also recently entered the social media world and joined Twitter. Originally, I just didn’t understand it and now that I am more involved with it Twitter and Instagram, I enjoy it. I get to interact with people I don’t get to normally and I also get to stay on top of news and other current events.
‘Til next time,
Sue Bird
