Back in ’94, the Sonics were about as good as it gets. They piled up 63 wins in the regular season behind Gary Payton (16, 6, 2.5 steals) and Shawn Kemp (18, 10, 2 steals, 2 blocks). They rolled into the Playoffs as the West’s No. 1 team, and into a shoulda-been-easy matchup with No. 8 Denver, who had won just 42 games.
The Sonics jumped ahead 2-0 in the series, which is when Dikembe Mutombo stepped in.
Denver rallied behind their jumping brick wall of a center to win the final three games and stun the Sonics.
Mutombo rejected 8 shots in Game 4, and repeated the feat in the clinching Game 5. In all, he stuffed 31 shots in that five-game set. Enjoy watching each one.
