C-Webb was the most prized recruiting prospect in the state of Michigan since Magic Johnson. He was named Michigan’s Mr. Basketball and was the National High School Player of the year in ’90 – 91 after averaging just under 30 and 13. He led the Fab Five to the National Title game in his sophomore season at U Mich when he famously called an unavailable TO with 11 seconds left, got called for a technical foul, and effectively clinched the game for UNC.
C-Webb was then drafted #1 overall by the Magic but promptly traded to Golden State for Penny Hardaway. He Won ROY honors and helped lead Golden State back to the playoffs. Differences between Webber and coach Don Nelson prompted a trade to the Bullets in his second year where he teamed up with fellow Wolverine, Juwan Howard. The Bullets were swept by MJ and the Bulls in the ’98 playoffs and then Webber was traded to the Kings where he continued to cement himself as one of the top PFs in the game. The Kings became a perennial playoff threat and Webber was rewarded with a 7-year $127 million contract in in 2001 (not bad). After micorfracture surgery, Webber went on to play for the Sixers and Pistons before retiring at the end of the 2007 season. His career averages are very impressive: 20.7 pts, 9.8 rbs, 4.2 asts. C-Webb was a bruiser but also a great passer and mid-range jump shooter. He also had a thing with Tyra Banks for a minute….so between that and $127 million, he didn’t too badly for himself.
