Legendary NCAA basketball coach Pat Summitt passed away yesterday and her former players, associates, rivals, friends and family all paid tribute to the pioneering figure in their own ways. Following last night’s Sparks-Wings game, former Lady Vol and current WNBA superstar Candace Parker spoke with ESPN’s Holly Rowe about coach Summitt and the influence she had on her life and career.
Parker, who dropped 31 points and grabbed 13 boards to lead Los Angeles to a win, was emotional during the interview and said ” from here on out, I’m playing for [coach Summitt].”
Check the interview above and read the letter Summitt wrote to Parker while the baller was still in high school:
You held true to your promises…and some. Thank you Coach for always being the perfect role model I love you. #RIP pic.twitter.com/HvA1mODwfP
