The anticipation for this past Saturday’s match-up between Brooklyn HS rivals Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson culminated with hundreds of fans standing outside Jefferson’s East New York campus prior to the game’s tip-off in confusion, as the doors remained locked and security tried to figure out how to squeeze in the standing-room only crowd into the small gymnasium. Once the game began and many fans were turned away after pouring over capacity, the bout lived up to the hype. The BK squads battled back and forth with the typical PSAL (Public School Athletic League) grittiness in full display throughout.
In the end, Jefferson was able to pull off the late fourth quarter comeback, after being down by seven with fourth minutes to go, to came away victorious 96-93. According to MSG Varsity, St. John’s bound point guard Shamorie Ponds, who is currently featured in SLAM 193 in newsstands right now, scored a game-high 31 points. Teammate and guard Rasheed Dunn also contributed 31 points. For Lincoln, guard Rakym Felder came away with 25 points in the losing effort, while Cahiem Brown chipped in 20 and sophomore stud Tyler Bourne added 18. The win improved Jefferson’s record to 11-7, while despite the loss Lincoln sits at 10-3. Check out the photos above to relive the action.
