Tyus Jones’ Basketball Diary, Part One

[sg-gallery]

This summer brings the 20th installment of our Basketball Diary, and as always, we’re excited about the new guy. This year it’s Tyus Jones of Apple Valley, MN, arguably the best PG prospect in the Class of 2014. He follows the likes of Stephon, LeBron, Kevin and Harrison in this spot, and we expect he’ll do it justice. Listen up.—Ed.

What’s going on? Right now, I’m working at our local basketball camp, just trying to help the grade school kids get better. I guess I’m a little bit of a celebrity around here. I get asked to take pictures with kids, stuff like that. Having younger kids look up to you, it’s just a blessing. It tells you to keep working hard, keep getting better.

What should you know about me? I think I’m a pretty simple kid. My family is close, so when I’m not on the court, I’m spending time with them. I’m not really one of those kids who’s partying. Basketball keeps me busy. I work out almost  every day, and I love watching basketball. Whenever we’re home, SportsCenter is on. Being in Minnesota, I’m a Wolves fan, and I’m a LeBron fan, too. As a point guard, I love watching Chris Paul. He’s got such a great mind for the game, and I love to watch how he orchestrates a team.

My favorite show is The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air—I own all the episodes—and I love scary movies. I’m a big fan of Drake and Lil’ Wayne, too. Video games, I’m definitely a sports guy, 2K and Madden. My brothers are the Call of Duty players, but I’m not as into that. And school? History is probably my favorite subject right now. I’m really interested in African-American history, something that kind of grew on me last year. I’m trying to start reading a little more.

And yeah, I’m on Twitter—@Tyusjones06—but I’m definitely not on as much as some people.

I’m still trying to figure out college. I got my list, and I’m going to start official visits in the fall. A lot of people are talking about Jahlil Okafor and me going to the same place. He’s like my brother, so I’d just say it’s something we’re pretty positive about doing. Maybe I’ll be able to tell you more about it next time.
