As the only five-star prospect in the class of 2014 that was still uncommitted, for weeks Myles Turner’s name was involved in all types of rumors and speculation regarding which school he was leaning toward. This afternoon, sporting a black bow tie and an orange Longhorn bucket hat, it all came to an end when the 6-11 center announced that he’ll remain in state and play for Rick Barnes in Austin. Turner, a late bloomer that just over a year ago was unranked, chose the Longhorns over Duke, Kansas, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Southern Methodist and Texas A&M. While in New York for the Jordan Brand Classic festivities a couple of weeks ago, Turner held down the annual JBC diary for SLAM and briefly talked about dealing with the recruiting process.
“To join these guys and do something special will mean a lot. I’m happy to be a Texan; Always been a Texan by whole life,” said Turner live on ESPNU. He met Kevin Durant, his favorite basketball player, while attending the Texas Longhorns youth camps back in junior high school. “I used to go to the camps when I was younger. Seeing what [Durant] did for that program kind of inspired me.”
