The NBA is cautiously approaching the issue of placing corporate sponsorships on team apparel, and quietly trying them out in the D-League. Reports the AP: “While the NBA studies putting sponsor logos on jerseys, the Development League is placing them on their teams’ uniforms in the playoffs. BBVA’s logo will be featured across the back of all jerseys during the NBA D-League playoffs, the league announced Monday. It’s the first time a marketing partner will have brand exposure on a D-League jersey other than adidas, the league’s official outfitter. BBVA, a financial service institution, is the presenting partner of the NBA D-League playoffs and finals. NBA owners discussed placing sponsor logos on their jerseys during their meetings last week, but are just beginning the study and Commissioner David Stern said he doesn’t expect to take any action next season.”
