Needing just 18 points to leapfrog Oscar Robertson on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list, Dirk Nowitzki made history by splashing in an open jumper early in the fourth quarter of the Dallas Mavericks’ 95-83 road win against the Utah Jazz. Per the Star-Telegram:
“Obviously I knew how many points I needed, but I wasn’t really trying to think about it,” said Nowitzki, who was 9-of-11 from the field. “I was just trying to think about the next shot, hoping to get open, and my teammates did a good job for me.
“The other thing I would say is I think that stuff means more to me when my career is over, but this is a sweet one. Top 10 is definitely unbelievable.”
Nowitzki now has 26,714 career points and is 233 from passing Hakeem Olajuwon, who is ninth on the list with 26,946 points.
