The Phoenix Suns have formally assigned James Jones a permanent role as the team’s general manager, the team announced in a press release. Jones had been serving in an interim position since Ryan McDonough was fired from the post last October.
Recently hired vice president of basketball operations Jeff Bower will report to Jones as opposed to the other way around and the two will set out to rebuild a franchise that has been mired in futility for the past half decade.
The 38-year-old Jones isn’t far removed from a 14-year playing career. Though Jones spent the latter half of his career as a complementary shooter on LeBron James-led teams in Miami and Cleveland, he served as a vital cog of the famous 7 Seconds of Less Suns from 2005 to 2008.
