Boston Celtics legend, Bill Russell has joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in taking the COVID-19 vaccination, per Yahoo!Sports:
Russell, 87, used his platform to urge people to take part in getting vaccinated:
Just got my #COVIDVaccination “This is one shot I won’t block” I know it is difficult to get an appointment! My wife put in the time for weeks and finally got us in. No side effects to report. @NBA @BostonGlobe @celtics #COVIDー19 #CovidVaccine @espn #NBA @BleacherReport https://t.co/yX7rWeYiPd

While Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill reports that no active player in the NBA has gotten the vaccine, veterans such as Russell and Abdul-Jabbar have been taking the initiative to spread the word by doing PSA’s.
“Because of the COVID-19 virus, we’ve had to find new ways to be together, we’ve had to find new ways to communicate, we had to find new ways to play and we have to find new ways to keep each other safe,” Abdul-Jabbar said, per Yahoo!Sports. “For myself and my family, I am going to take the COVID-19 vaccine. To learn more about the vaccines, go to CDC.gov. Let’s do this together.”
