While Zach Randolph hasn’t suited up in the NBA since a brief run with the Sacramento Kings during the 2017-18 campaign, he hadn’t officially announced his retirement.
Today, the fan favorite posted on social media thanking all of the teams, coaches and individuals who shaped his 16-year career.
The post comes just days after Randolph was approached by TMZ and said that he wouldn’t pursue an NBA comeback.
Randolph signed a lucrative deal with the Kings back in 2017 as a mentor to the young squad taking foot in Northern California and that brought an end to his celebrated eight-year run with a memorable Memphis Grizzlies franchise.
Randolph averaged over 20 points per game three times over the course of his career and formed an iconic grit-n-grind frontcourt pairing in Memphis alongside Marc Gasol.
That Grizzlies team made seven consecutive postseasons during Randolph’s run there and the team, in general, is required viewing for any new hoops head that missed their initial run.
Randolph was a major component of the Memphis team that knocked off the Oklahoma City Thunder en route to the Western Conference Finals in 2013 just one year after OKC had made their way to the 2012 NBA Finals.
The 38-year-old insisted last September that he wasn’t officially retired, despite not playing at all in 2018-19 but hasn’t caught on with an NBA squad since.
