Victor Wembanyama Backs up the Hype, Drops 37 in Exhibition Matchup Against Scoot Henderson
Victor Wembanyama is a name that many should get familiar with. The 7-4 eighteen-year-old from France has caught the attention of everybody across the basketball world as not only an undeniable talent, but a projected the first-round, and potentially No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft.
Still, there have been lots of questions about whether Wembanyama’s game can translate well over into the NBA. The SLAM 240 cover star and the Metropolitans 92 in an exhibition game Tuesday night in Las Vegas against the G League team Ignite—who has their own contender for projected No. 1 pick in Scoot Henderson— in front of 200 scouts and NBA executives.
The French cheat code dropped 37 points on what was a very efficient 11-of-20 shooting. Wembanyama’s scoring clinic also included seven threes as well as showing a ton of heart on the defensive end picking up five blocks along with four rebounds.
“I want to become the kind of player you have never seen,” Victor told SLAM in his exclusive cover story.
Henderson also had a great outing to show dynamic play at the guard position. Henderson finished with 28 points and nine assists.
With the 2023 NBA Draft on the horizon, it’s more than safe to say the NBA has no shortage of talent coming into the League. Wembanyama and Henderson square off again in another exhibition match on Thursday night in Vegas.
