Without Ben Simmons this season, the Philadelphia 76ers have needed others to step up and fill his void. Thus far, the player that has emerged to generate additional production is guard Tyrese Maxey.
In just his second NBA season, Maxey is an early candidate for the most improved player in the league. In fact, over his last six games he’s averaged 25.7 points, 4.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds per contest.
Maxey has done this efficiently, shooting 48.1% from deep and 92.0% from the free throw line.
Although he was great as a rookie, Maxey’s play has been on a new level this season. The Kentucky product is proving to be one of the best players in the sophomore class.
Overall on the season, the former first-round pick is averaging 18.4 points, 4.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. While he doesn’t do everything Simmons does on the floor, he’s been a huge reason that the Sixers have earned a 9-8 record on the season while being shorthanded.
