Wing Tony Snell intends to pick up his player option for the 2020-21 season James Edwards III of The Athletic reports. Snell will earn $12.2 million in the fourth and final year of the deal he inked back in 2017.
Snell initially signed his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks but was traded to the Detroit Pistons last offseason. It was a move on the margins for Ed Stefanski’s front office, as the team unloaded Jon Leuer and effectively took on an additional year of an eight-digit contract in exchange for a draft asset (last year’s 30th pick).
Snell did start 57 games for the Pistons this season and averaged 8.0 points per contest on .404 shooting from beyond the arc.
Snell bounced between both wing positions last season and will look to continue to provide reliable three-point shooting for the Pistons in his age 29 season.
It’s possible, given his movable contract and the fact that he’s emerged as a solid deep threat, that Snell will hold trade value given the fact that the Pistons are very much in the early stages of a rebuild.
