The New York Knicks haven’t been to the playoffs since 2013. However, after acquiring a ton of young talent over the past few years and hiring Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach, they could be turning a corner.
Known for being a head coach that wants to win now and push his players to their limits, Thibodeau’s hiring could signal a new direction in New York. According to Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News, Thibodeau recently said that the Knicks need to be aggressive in pursuing a star.
“Sometimes you have to do it through trades, sometimes it’s free agency. But I think you have to be very aggressive in seeking out those opportunities. They just don’t happen by accident. You have to make them happen.”
This would be a smart move for the Knicks. As their roster is comprised now, New York has plenty of solid role players that would be complementary to a star. Whether it’s through free agency or trade, the Knicks could be one star away from being relevant again.
