The Timberwolves’ front-office considers Karl-Anthony Towns as an “untouchable” player, according to president of basketball ops Gersson Rosas.
“He’s the buy we’re building around,” says Rosas.
And KAT has pooh-poohed any rumors of a rift with the organization, insisting he wants to remain in Minnesota.
The big fella adds that he’s not sweating being named an NBA All-Star for a third consecutive year.
Per ESPN and The Star Tribune:
“Karl-Anthony Towns is as untouchable as they come,” Rosas told ESPN. “He’s the best player on our team and he’s the guy we’re building around. Everything we do is to help him become the best player and to help us become the best team we can be. He’s a special talent that we’re going to do anything possible to help him achieve his highest potential.”
The NBA will release its All-Star starters on Thursday and Karl-Anthony Towns likely won’t make the cut.
“It would be an honor. But, for me, I’m not even worried about that to tell you honestly,” Towns said. “I just worry about winning. That’s the only thing. I don’t wake and say, ‘I need to get these amount of points and these rebounds and these statistics for an All-Star bid.’ The last thing I’m thinking about is the All-Star bid. I’m trying to figure out ways to get wins for my team, my organization, and to find better ways to lead.”
Added Towns: “I don’t got time, thinking about all the other ways we could win to be thinking about All-Star bids. And that’s no offense to the committee … That’s where my mind is. My mind is about finding ways to win, finding ways to take those two bad things out the equation and have us play a complete game.”
