Head coach Chauncey Billups and the Portland Trail Blazers are in for some good company.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, former Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks is close to finalizing a deal that will make him lead assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Brooks is considered to be a “significant addition” to the Blazers re-tooling process due to his past feats as a head coach and the experience he brings to a staff led by a first-time head coach. As a former NBA guard, Brooks also has established an impressive rapport with some of the league’s premier guards, such as Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal.
Perhaps the feather in Brooks’ cap, he’s also responsible for leading a young, up-and-coming Oklahoma City Thunder squad to the 2012 NBA Finals against the “Big 3 Era” Miami Heat.
Most recently, Brooks led most recently led the Washington Wizards to a 34-38 record in the 2020-21 season, accumulating a 183-207 record over a five-year span.
