The Houston Rockets are nearing a deal to finalize their head coaching vacancy with Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas, Adrian’s Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
The 47-year-old arrives in Houston with a robust portfolio of assistant coaching opportunities and extensive experience mentoring guards. Silas, of course, will coach James Harden and Russell Westbrook in 2020-21.
Silas’ father was a long-time head coach in the NBA but his track record on the sidelines stands alone. Silas most recently spent two years mentoring Luka Doncic and the Mavs, after eight years in Charlotte with the Bobcats and Hornets.
Silas will fill the spot left buy Mike D’Antoni. It’s unclear whether the team will continue to employ an ultra small ball lineup when action resumes for the next NBA season.
