With John Wall preparing to sit out until the Houston Rockets find him a new home, the up-and-coming Western Conference squad will be in need of a point guard.
As a result, they’re nearing a deal to bring back Dante Exum for the training camp roster, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Exum is coming off a strong run in the Tokyo Olympics in which he helped the Australia’s men’s national basketball team win the Bronze medal, averaging 9.0 points and 2.8 assists per game on 56.7 percent shooting from the field and 60.0 percent shooting from 3-point range.
The 26-year-old was originally acquired in the blockbuster James Harden trade that involved the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers. However, though he was on the roster, he didn’t get a chance to play due to nursing a calf injury.
An athletic 6-foot-5 playmaker, Exum was the fifth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Unfortunately, his career has been hampered by injuries. However, when healthy, Exum can provide an additional defender and slasher to their promising backcourt rotation.
