The Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets have agreed to an eight-man trade that’ll send Derrick Favors to the Rockets while the Thunder will acquire two draft exceptions, save $1 million in salary, and four players, including Trey Burke and Marquese Chriss, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
Cap-centric deal for both teams: Thunder gain two trade exceptions and drop about $10M under luxury tax. Rockets get a second-round pick for taking on $1M in salary. Favors will have value as a backup center, or elsewhere on a trade in marketplace too. https://t.co/k8zpgthwOh

The Rockets also received Ty Jerome, Theo Maledon, and Moe Harkless, along with a 2025 second-round draft pick that the Thunder initially received in a trade with Atlanta. The Thunder received David Nwaba and Sterling Brown per Woj.
Woj says the deal dropped OKC approximately $10 million under the luxury tax threshold. Woj also reported that the Thunder and Rockets now have 18 guaranteed contracts on their respective rosters and will have to pare that number down to 15 by Oct. 17. Harkless can be moved again because he was reportedly absorbed into a disabled player exception. Maledon and Nwaba are under contract for the 2023-23 season with team options.
