The Milwaukee Bucks are gearing up to defend their NBA Championship and are looking to fill the backend of their roster in training camp.
One player who will compete for a spot is big man Johnny O’Bryant, who signed a non-guaranteed training camp with the Bucks on Tuesday, according to The Atheltic’s Shams Charania.
This will be a homecoming for O’Bryant, who spent his first two seasons in the NBA in 2014-16 with the Bucks. O’Bryant played in 100 games during those two seasons and averaged 3.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
O’Bryant hasn’t played in the NBA since 2018, playing the past few seasons overseas in Europe in Israel, Turkey, Russia and Serbia. Most recently, O’Bryant won the Serbian Cup in 2021 with Crvena Zvezda and played with Türk Telekom in the Turkish Basketball Super League.
He was a second-round draft pick by the Bucks in 2014 out of LSU, where he was named First-Team All-SEC in both 2013 and 2014.
There’s one roster spot open on the Bucks heading into training camp after Milwaukee waived Elijah Bryant on Sunday. The Bucks haven’t released the rest of their training camp roster yet but O’Bryant will have the next month to prove his worth to Milwaukee.
Training camp officially began for the NBA on Tuesday, with the Bucks’ first preseason game coming against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
