REPORT: Evan Fournier Agrees to 4-Year Contract with Knicks Worth up to $78 Million
Money talks in free agency and the New York Knicks weren’t shy in their negotiations with free agent shooting guard Evan Fournier, who agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $78 million, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Fournier, a renowned sharpshooter with a career 3-point percentage of 37.9, has seven seasons shooting at least 37.0 percent from three.
Last season, Fournier found himself shipped to the Boston Celtics as the Orlando Magic stripped their team of veterans while embracing a rebuild and he fit in rather nicely in Beantown, leading to interest from the Celtics in bringing him back.
However, currently participating in the Tokyo Olympics as part of France’s men’s national basketball team, Fournier received a list of offers from his agent and quickly settled on Tom Thibodeau’s Knicks.
Fournier will bring his sharpshooting and scoring punch to a Knicks team that ranked 26th in points per game (107.0), 23rd in offensive rating (110.6) and 27th in 3-point attempts last season (30.0).
Those numbers alone underscore Fournier’s fit but when assessing New York’s wing group, it’s clear that—aside from R.J. Barrett—it’s the team’s weakest unit.
That should no longer be the case with Fournier joining Immanuel Quickley, along with rookies Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride, in a group that should shape up to be one of the Knicks’ most competitive.
