While they currently boast one of the youngest backcourts in the NBA—headlined by Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony and R.J. Hampton—the rebuilding Orlando Magic decided to acquire some veteran leadership on Thursday.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Magic had signed veteran sharpshooter E’Twaun Moore to a one-year, $2.6 million contract.
Moore is fresh off of NBA Finals run with the Phoenix Suns, though one where he was featured very little.
A 10-year veteran, Moore played in just 27 games last year, averaging 4.9 points per game.
Ultimately, while a serviceable combo guard, the primary benefit the 32-year-old brings—particularly to the Magic—is a wealth of experience, playing in 598 career games with five teams (including two seasons with the Magic from 2012-14).
On the court, Moore’s highly-touted skill is his perimeter shooting, as he has a career-scoring average of 7.9 points per game on 38.8 percent shooting from 3-point range.
The Magic are coming off a forgettable 2020-21 campaign, finishing 14th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 21-51. This year will likely be more of the same for the Magic with such a young roster, but the future is bright for Orlando with its exciting young core.
