The Cavs elevated Gansey to GM in the wake of the Cavs rewarding Koby Altman with an extension and ascension to president of basketball operations. Altman served as the principal architect of the Cavs’ rise up the Eastern Conference playoff standings.
Ganey previously served as assistant general manager after a remarkable rise from becoming GM of the Canton Charge, where he won G League Executive of the Year in 2017. He worked in the front office of the Canton franchise for the last decade after starting as an intern in basketball operations in 2011.
The 39-year-old previously played college basketball for St. Bonaventure and West Virginia before playing professionally in the then-NBA D League for the Erie Bayhawks and Idaho Stampede. He also played professionally in China and Germany.
