As part of the blockbuster four-team trade that sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets, the Houston Rockets obtained a wealth of draft capital as well as Victor Oladipo. After three full seasons in Indiana, Oladipo would find a new home in Houston.
Shortly after the trade, general manager Rafael Stone spoke to Tim MacMahon of ESPN and other members of the media about Oladipo and his fit on the team.
“Your hope is it’s a perfect marriage. He’s an extremely talented player… For him and for us, this is a really exciting time where we get to see how it works out. Hopefully, it works out gangbusters and we go from there.”
Oladipo is in the final year of his current contract and is set to become a free agent in the upcoming offseason. If things work out the remainder of the season with the Rockets, a new long-term deal would be something both sides could look at. In nine games for the Pacers this season, Oladipo has averaged 20.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest.
