The Denver Nuggets acquired Gerald Green as one of many pieces in their Wednesday mega-trade but are expected to waive him, Mike Singer of the Denver Post reports.
The move isn’t especially surprising given that the 34-year-old remains sidelined with a broken foot. His release will free up a roster spot for the Nuggets, who had one open prior to the big trade.
That could come in handy if the team is eager to make further deals ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
Although Green isn’t likely to contribute to any team over the course of the rest of the 2019-20 campaign, the beloved Houston native couldn’t return to the Rockets this season even if the two parties wanted to.
The NBA’s CBA forbids players from re-signing with a team that traded them that season.
