Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse signed a contract extension on Tuesday, but not in the NBA.
On Tuesday, the Candian National Basketball Team announced that its head coach, Nurse, had signed a contract extension to remain with the team through 2024.
The new extension means Nurse will be the head coach of the Canadian National Team for the 2024 Olympics taking place in Paris, France.
Nurse joined Canada in 2019 and acted as head coach during Canada’s Olympic qualifying campaign after the NBA season. Canada came up short of qualifying for the 2020 Olympics, taking place in 2021, after suffering an overtime loss to the Czech Republic during qualifying.
Nurse has only been a head coach in the NBA for three seasons and has already obtained a high level of success. In three seasons, Nurse has accumulated a record of 138-88, three Coach of the Month awards, the 2019-20 NBA Coach of the Year and the 2019 NBA Championship.
Before becoming the head coach of the Raptors, Nurse served as an assistant from 2013-18 and spent 11 seasons coaching in the British Basketball League.
