Monte Morris broke out in the 2020 NBA Playoffs and was a huge reason the Denver Nuggets were able to make it to the Western Conference Finals. Through 19 postseason games on their run, Morris averaged 9.1 points and 2.7 assists in just 21.4 minutes per game. He even started in four games and had 10 games in which he scored in double figures.
With just one year left on his deal worth roughly $1.7 million that is non-guaranteed until the start of free agency, it’s time for both him and the Nuggets to start thinking about the future and a contract extension. Morris recently spoke to Mike Singer of The Denver Post about his future with the team, where he expressed interest in an extension that would keep him in Denver.
“I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone, I would love to get an extension here. I love Denver. I love everything from the organization to the coaches all the way down to equipment, to everyone. Me, personally, hopefully, if it goes that way. I would love to be in Denver for however long.”
It would make sense for both sides to start working on a deal. Morris is still just 25 years old and has the ability to play either guard position as a playmaker. Even though they are solid at guard with players like Jamal Murray, Gary Harris and Will Barton, quality depth is always something that contending teams need.
Morris has established a key role on this Nuggets team and has the opportunity to continue to grow. After his performance in the recent postseason, the former second-round draft pick is due for an extension.
