The Denver Nuggets have announced that they’ve agreed to a contract extension with head coach Michael Malone. The 48-year-old has led the franchise for the past four seasons.
In the past half decade Malone has played a vital role in the Nuggets’ rise from fringe Western Conference playoff team to legitimate title contender. They’ve won more wins every season the coach has been on board and are on pace for their best season yet.
Malone’s extension will keep him with the Nuggets through 2022-23, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports, plenty of time to build around team cornerstones Nikola Jokic (under contract through 2023) and Jamal Murray (under contract through 2024).
Prior to signing on with Denver, Malone was the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, he was fired after 106 games with the franchise.
