The New York Knicks have changed their tune regarding Marcus Morris’ availability ahead of the trade deadline. The 180 comes after their dramatic decision to part ways with president Steve Mills on Tuesday.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported shortly after the dismissal that Morris was suddenly attainable with Mills out of the picture.
There hasn’t been a shortage of demand since seeing as the veteran has enjoyed one of the best campaigns of his career in 2019-20. Two early suitors are the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.
The two L.A. squads are in the midst of what Wojnarowski referred to as an arms race on ESPN, each intrigued by the prospect of adding wing depth but also the idea of keeping him away from a rival.
Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times tweets that if the Knicks sought to partner with the Lakers, they could try to get Kyle Kuzma back. To make the money work, they would need to bring Danny Green back as well, which isn’t a negligible addition.
Morris earns $15M this season, the one and only season on a deal he signed after an unconventional courtship last summer. Morris had a verbal commitment with the San Antonio Spurs but broke that when an opportunity in New York came available.
Turner also spoke of the Clippers, mentioning that they would be willing to part with Maurice Harkless in a potential swap but reluctant to include sophomore Landry Shamet.
The 30-year-old has averaged 19.6 points per game so far this season.
