Lakers superstar LeBron James went from watching Grizzlies rookie Ziaire Williams dominating in the same Sierra Canyon uniform as his son, Bronny, to seeing him suiting up for an opposing NBA team.
After the Lakers’ 121-118 win over Memphis, James mentioned what it was like to play against Williams:
“I looked at Ziaire a couple times and was just shaking my head inside,” James says, per CBS Sports. “Just remembering a year and a half ago, two years, not even a full two years, he was hitting a game-winner to send them to the state championship alongside my son, and going to the game and supporting Sierra Canyon, and one year at Stanford and now he’s here, so it’s a weird dynamic for myself to see something like that but happy for the kid, obviously. But I had a moment for sure.”
Williams, who was drafted in the first-round of the 2021 NBA Draft, is currently averaging 4.0 points and 1.7 in 17 minutes so far this season. At Stanford, Williams averaged 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
With the new wave of talent coming into the League, James is set to face another one of his son’s former teammates, Brandon Boston Jr., when the Lakers play the Clippers on Dec. 3.
