The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a deal with free agent guard Dion Waiters, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Waiters will fill the roster vacancy created by the release of Troy Daniels.
Waiters last saw action with the Miami Heat but was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies after they acquired him at the trade deadline.
Waiters was among several plausible free agent targets. The Lakers were additionally said to be interested in J.R. Smith.
While Waiters’ 2019-20 campaign with the Heat was an all-around disappointment, the 28-year-old is a solid rotation piece with a high ceiling. He’s a past teammate of LeBron James’ as well.
Waiters’ contract – a prorated minimum deal – will span the remainder of the current campaign. There’s no reported financial commitment beyond this season, guaranteed or otherwise, at this stage.
