Following a string of devastating injuries over the past couple of years, Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors is eyeing a healthy comeback in the 2021-22 season. Most recently, he suffered an Achilles injury that he’s currently rehabilitating.
In a press release on Monday, the Warriors gave an update on Thompson’s status, saying that the former All-Star guard is making ‘good progress’ and is on pace for a return during the season.
Golden State also mentioned that Thompson will participate in various controlled drills in training camp and that his return to full practices will be determined at a later time.
His health is extremely important for the Warriors, as they look to get back to the championship caliber team they were prior to Thompson’s injury. He’s coming off of five-consecutive NBA All-Star appearances in seasons that he has played and was a key piece of Golden State winning three NBA Championships.
During the 2018-19 season when he was last healthy, Thompson averaged 21.5 points per game while shooting 40.2 percent from deep and was an elite perimeter defender.
The Warriors need Thompson if they’re going to contend and all signs are pointing to a return this season.
