The highly anticipated French guard Killian Hayes has a labral tear in his right hip, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.
Hayes likely sustained the injury on Monday against the Milwaukee Bucks, in which he fell during the third quarter while attempting to defend a fast break.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill, sources say that the 19-year old rookie could miss 4-6 weeks if he opts not to have surgery:
“Surgery is an option, sources say, and if Hayes does have surgery he could miss the rest of the season,” Goodwill reports. “Fortunately, there’s no apparent structural or vascular damage, and doctors believe he’ll fully recover with rehab. The Pistons are sending Hayes to a specialist to determine the next option.”
Hayes, a highly anticipated prospect from France (he was born in Florida but grew up there), turned pro at the age of 16 and played in Germany last season for ratiopharm Ulm.
After the Pistons selected him as the No.7 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Hayes was named a starter and has been directing the offense at point for all seven games so far this season. He’s averaging 4.6 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
