Immanuel Quickley, Miles McBride Lead Knicks Over Lakers in Summer League Thriller
In one of the marquee matchups of the NBA Summer League, the New York Knicks took down the Los Angeles Lakers, 91-82 on Wednesday night.
The Knicks were led by Immanuel Quickley and Miles McBride, two young guards who have both shown an immense amount of potential. Quickley, who broke out this past year as a rotation piece for the Knicks as a sharpshooter with a penchant for a sweet floater, dropped 25 points.
However, arguably the most impressive performance came from McBride, the 36th overall pick from the 2021 NBA Draft.
McBride, known for his defense, was lights-out from behind the arc. The West Virginia University product put up 22 points (6-of-6 from three), seven rebounds, and five assists.
Following the win, credited his performance to the work he has done on slowing down and taking the game as it comes to him.

It’s just about taking shots in the flow of the game,” McBride said. “I think in the first game I kind of rushed a lot of shots and I just went back and watched film with the coaches and tried to understand the game more and just find where the best shots are going to come from, and that’s what I feel like I did today.”
Knicks Summer League head coach, Dice Yoshimoto, said that McBride’s performance may just be the tip of the iceberg for the young point guard.
“Obviously, he’s a really good player,” Yoshimoto said. “Like I’ve said before, he’s put in a lot of time in the gym and it showed today. You could tell that he shot very well in college, and that he’s going to continue to put his time in. He’s going to keep getting better. That’s who he is.”
