  • Room Exception – $4,767,000

Key Offseason Decisions

  • Will the Pistons use some cap space to retain Thon Maker’s restricted free agent rights? Maker hasn’t developed as hoped for, but is still young with upside.
  • Is Jordan McRae part of the plans for next season? McRae was claimed late in the season. The Pistons have his Bird Rights, but the cap space created by renouncing him may initially be more valuable than keep those rights.
  • Will Luke Kennard sign a contract extension? An extension would probably have to be fairly team-friendly, given Kennard’s injury history. Kennard may choose to bet on himself instead and hit restricted free agency in 2021.

Projected Team Salary

$77,314,988

While Blake Griffin and Tony Snell don’t have desirable deals, the Pistons still have a ton of flexibility this summer. Christian Wood’s Early Bird Rights will be kept, as he’s part of Detroit’s long-term plans. Bruce Brown and Svi Mykhailiuk have been rotation players, so they’ll end up being guaranteed. Khyri Thomas is a question mark, but it’s likely he’s back as well. Add it all up and the Pistons will still have more than $30M in cap space. (@KeithSmithNBA)

Cap Space Forecast

$30,028,392 (3rd out of 30)
