Derrick Rose is a veteran of the NBA who has achieved a lot in his 13-year career, but it appears that Rose isn’t looking to put an end to it anytime soon.
When speaking with Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Rose said he wants to take the “Tom Brady” route to retirement.
“I’m going to try to Tom Brady this thing,” Rose said. “Play as long as possible, make sure I really take care of my body. And make sure I’m playing with joy.”
This quote is in reference to Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who is currently 44 years old and playing in his 22nd season in the NFL.
Rose has a long way to go to hit Brady’s level of career longevity, but 13 years into his career and just 33 years old, Rose certainly has some left in the tank.
For his career, Rose has played in 651 games and averaged 18.4 points and 5.5 assists per game over his career. Rose also has a number of personal accolades, being named to three All-Star teams, winning Rookie of the Year in 2008-09 and MVP in 2010-11.
Through five games this season, Rose is still providing a scoring punch to his current team, the New York Knicks. He’s averaging 13.8 points, 3.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Rose’s production has helped lead the Knicks to a 4-1 record, tied for best in the Eastern Conference.
