The Los Angeles Lakers traded for point guard Dennis Schroder before last season in effort to repeat as NBA Champions in the 2020-21 season. With one year left on his deal, the Lakers knew they’d have to work on a new contract throughout the season and potentially into the following summer.
During the season, Schroder rejected a four-year, $84M contract extension with Los Angeles. With this being the most they could offer at the time as an extension, the German guard would wait until the offseason where he would be eligible for more money from the Lakers or another team.
With free agency set to begin at the beginning of August, Schroder will likely sign his new contract with a team in the coming weeks. With that in mind, Marc Stein recently reported that Schroder believes he’s a $100 million player, while the Lakers view him as a sixth man and may be ready to move on from him.
Last season, Schroder averaged 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game while shooting .335 from deep.
In what might have been his final game in a Lakers uniform, he went 0-for-9 from the floor, scoring zero points, in a Game 5 loss to the Phoenix Suns.
