D. Hunter will undergo a lateral meniscus arthroscopic debridement procedure on Monday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Kyle Hammond, the Hawks’ team orthopaedist. An update on his recovery plan will be provided in approximately two weeks. pic.twitter.com/2rFBKKZ1CA
The Hawk’s third-leading scorer has missed the last four games after leaving the game against the Wizards in January due to what was described as “right knee discomfort.” He had a nonsurgical procedure done on January 30, per ESPN.
According to Sarah Spencer of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce is optimistic that Hunter will return this season.
It doesn’t sound like a season-ending injury… all signs is that he will be back, we just don’t know when
The No.4 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Virginia has shown plenty of improvements in his second season as his numbers and playing time have increased.
Fortunately for the Hawks, they still have depth at the forward position as Cam Reddish, Kevin Huerter, and Danilo Gallinari will look to fill in for Hunter’s absence.
The Hawks who have been 1-3 since Hunter’s injury, will head to Dallas to play the Mavericks on Wednesday.
