Minnesota Timberwolves guard D’Angelo Russell has been a bright spot for the team this season, averaging 19.3 points and 5.1 assists per game. However, Minnesota hasn’t had much success and have the worst record in the Western Conference at 7-21.
To make things worse, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Russell will “undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove a loose body in his left knee and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks.” Russell had suffered a left knee injury while playing in Brooklyn.
With that in mind, the Timberwolves will need others to step up in Russell’s absence. On Tuesday, rookie Anthony Edwards exploded for 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in a loss against the Lakers. Perhaps filling this scoring void will be an opportunity for Edwards to develop.
