Unable to hold on to Baron Davis, and turned down by Elton Brand, the Golden State Warriors did the next best thing: Snatch up Corey Maggette.
Maximus will reportedly sign a five year contract worth $50 million with the Warriors, and doesn’t appear to hold a grudge against the Clippers (who clearly no longer wanted any part of him.). From the L.A. Times:
“I really, really enjoyed the fans in Southern California,” Maggette said. “I had a great opportunity being there and I will never forget the fans. I wish the Clippers would have at least gave me an opportunity and they didn’t. But there’s no bad blood and I wish them the best.”
Maggette said he had called the Clippers asking whether they were willing to match Golden State’s offer. The response, he said, was no.
And so thus ends Maggette’s eight-year run with the Clip Show, where he averaged 17 points per game.
Corey should count his lucky stars that the Clippers didn’t give him a chance to resign; that place is dead anyway.
