Bradley Beal‘s monster scoring nights haven’t often translated into wins for the Wizards this season, so he’s not exactly jazzed about the huge numbers.
Beal, 26, says he “could care less” about playing well if it doesn’t result in victory.
The high-scoring guard finished with a game-high 34 points Sunday night to lead Washington past the Golden State Warriors in a 124-110 road win.
“It was God playing,” Beal said, in awe of his sizzling 10-for-24 shooting, including 7 for 9 from three-point range. “I don’t know who that guy was tonight.”
Beal, who also shared the ball for eight assists in his 35 minutes, made five threes in the first quarter.
“Honestly, I could care less about how I’m playing as long as we’re winning, because my career highs and those good games, what is the record? We’re 1-9 when I score 40 or something. That’s terrible,” Beal said. “I’m not happy about that. I’m not going to sit here and be like, ‘Oh yeah, but I scored 40.’ No, we’ve got to win and that’s what I’m about.”
Beal has scored at least 25 points in a franchise-record 18 straight games.
“The players know, they know he’s impossible to guard,” Wizards coach Scott Brooks said. “He’s one of the elite. Right now, there’s James (Harden). He’s the only one scoring more points than him. He’s really efficient. Not bad. Can you imagine if he was an All-Star what he’d be doing right now?”
