Blake Griffin: ‘If Developing Young Guys Is The Goal For This Season, Then I’ll Do Whatever They Ask Of Me’
With NBA Media Week kicking off yesterday, we’ve had the chance to hear the thoughts of some of the best players and coaches across the league. One of the most interesting topics came out of Detroit, where Blake Griffin discussed his role with the Pistons for the 2020-21 season.
According to Kristian Winfield of New York Daily News, Griffin says that if the team is looking to re-build and add young talent, he’s willing to step up and take on a mentorship role:
“If developing young guys is the goal for this season, then I’ll do whatever they ask of me. I’ll spend more time with them, try to teach more, try to listen more.”
Rather than demanding a trade or forcing the role he wants, Griffin, who is 31 years old and one of the better forwards in the NBA when healthy, seems to genuinely want to help however he is needed.
During his three seasons in Detroit, Griffin has produced 22.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. On a young Pistons team, perhaps his mentorship will be just as important as his on-court production this season.
