The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that guard Ben Simmons will be out for at least three more weeks. Simmons is currently rehabbing from a nerve impingement in his back. The Sixers said that Simmons is gradually increasing his activity in his rehab program and will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
Simmons has been out since leaving the Sixers game at the Bucks on February 22. Simmons played just 4:44 of the first quarter that night and was shut down shortly thereafter.
Without Simmons, Philadelphia has gone 3-4. The 76ers have also played the majority of that time without Joel Embiid. Embiid suffered a left shoulder sprain in the first quarter of Philadelphia’s game at the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 26. Embiid returned to practice this week and should return to game action soon.
The three-week timeline before Simmons is re-evaluated will take us to April 1. At that point, there will be just two weeks left in the NBA regular season. That leaves little time for the Sixers to work their All-Star guard back into the lineup before the playoffs start.
