The Atlanta Hawks recently signed five-year journeyman Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot to a one year, non guaranteed contract according to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. The deal gives the Frenchman an opportunity to make the roster in training camp.

Luwawu-Cabarrot has a known reputation as a solid defender within the League. His most recent team was the Brooklyn Nets where he was playing alongside Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden, all ball-dominant players. His role with the Nets was to defend the best guard or wing player while spacing the floor on offense. During his two seasons with the Nets, Luwawu-Cabarrot averaged 7.1 points and 2.5 rebounds in 105 regular season games.
For the Atlanta Hawks, this deal is proactive using a very low risk, but high reward type of execution.
With some NBA teams monitoring the future of Cam Reddish, the team is probably safeguarding against the possibility of losing him in free agency or being able to use him in a trade to upgrade the roster. If Reddish stays, then Luwawu-Cabarrot will be a solid training camp player that will work hard in scrimmages to help the Hawks chemistry wise on offense and defense.
