Everyone has basically already handed the 2016-17 NBA title to the Golden State Warriors, but Stephen Curry is looking to manage expectations heading into next season.
The back-to-back MVP helped recruit Kevin Durant to the Bay Area, and says the Dubs aren’t necessarily going to win going away every night.
Curry says the Warriors will not cruise to the championship.
Per the Mercury News:
What was your reaction to Durant choosing Warriors? […] Curry: “Big time move by a big time person. A lot of people are going to have something to say about it. Obviously, it was a tough decision for him because of how he felt about Oklahoma City. It mattered a lot to him. But that just shows you what kind of character he has.”
How good can this team be? […] Curry: “Just because we have KD, because the guys we have on the roster — we do have one of the most talented rosters in the NBA — but that doesn’t mean we’re just going to blow everybody out. It’s not like CYO, where you roll the ball out and the most talented team wins. We’re going to have to work. We’re going to have to play well. Nothing will be given to us. We’re not going to go 82-0 and blow everybody out. We are going to be challenged.”
It’s championship or bust now … […] Curry: “It was the same thing last year. We’re used to having that kind of pressure. We know what it feels like. We’re more prepared for it and we will be better for it.”
