Addressing a fresh round of speculation Thursday regarding this reportedly tenuous job security, OKC Thunder head coach Scott Brooks confidently stated that he’s not anticipating having to look for a new gig.
Brooks met with reporters during his exit interview, and said that despite missing the postseason for the first time in six years, he expects to return for another run with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
Both superstars lent their support to Brooks in their own interviews.
Per The Oklahoman:
“I expect to be the coach,” Brooks said. “Proud to be the coach of this organization. Love being here. I expect to be the coach here next season.”
“In the business of sports, there’s always going to be speculation,” he said. “You have to be able to do your job regardless of what is out there. I’m proud to be here. I’m excited about the talent that we have here.”
Brooks is about to enter the final season of his contract — a potential lame-duck year — with the Thunder holding a team option for 2016-17. But Brooks brushed off the idea of needing to rework a longer-term deal to feel more comfortable. […] “You sign a deal, you sign a deal,” Brooks said. “I’ll honor (it). It’s always about doing your job to the best of your abilities. I’m confident enough that what we’ve done here over the last seven years is special. It doesn’t happen a lot. We haven’t won a championship, but we’ve done a lot of things.”
